Huge strides are being made in the fight against crime in Manenberg. Thanks to an integrated safety plan for this notorious gangster heartland, no shootings have been reported since the beginning of the school year.
As part of the plan involving the community and law enforcement, the presence of armed police officers has been increased. Officers are now on patrol army-style and according to local station commander, Brigadier André van Wyk, with excellent results. He told Smile 90.4FM that senior police officers have also had discussions with gang members in an attempt to curb crime and promote reconciliation. He expressed the hope that the peace and quiet now being enjoyed by the Manenberg community, will be not be short-lived.
