Cape Town has experienced one of its best summer seasons to date! That’s according to Wesgro who has just released some pretty impressive facts and figures for November and December. The V&A Waterfront for one has had its best year to date, exceeding 24 million visitors over the course of the year. More than five million people visited the Mother City’s tourism crown jewel in November and December (2014) alone.
Other big attractions like Kirstenbosch, now boasting The Boomslang, also saw a spike in visitor numbers, attracting just under 117 000 visitors in December – a 31 percent increase compared to the same period for 2013!
According to Judy Lain, Chief Marketing Officer at Wesgro, the visitor’s report by Cape Town International Airport Arrivals for December 2014 makes for very good reading. International arrivals were up by 3.2%, regional arrivals increased by 13.8% while the domestic arrivals make up the majority during December with 6.5%.
Lain told Smile 90.4FM that the Western Cape remained a big draw card for both domestic and international visitors alike: “The increase throughout the province is reassuring to an industry that contributes more than R18 billion to our provincial economy annually and employs approximately 150 000 people.”
