The relentless efforts by the courageous crews that have been fighting the South Peninsula fires have paid off. The City of Cape Town announced this morning that the blazes are now under control although a few hot spots remain.
The fire started in Muizenberg above Boyes Drive on Sunday the first and rapidly spread to other areas including Ou Kaapse Weg, Noordhoek, Chapman’s Peak, Tokai, Constantia and Clovelly.
According to the City, ten crews continue to manage the situation in Constantia. A few ground crews are also on duty in Clovelly and along Boyes Drive, between Lakeside and Kalk Bay.
JP Smith, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, says they are enormously grateful, not only to all the firefighters but also to the residents of Cape Town for their support and encouragement.
