Books bring joy!

It was big smiles all around when an interactive Mandela Day Library for farm learners was launched in Durbanville. This facility is a joint venture between the Nelson Mandela Foundation and a key Mandela Day partner, the Cotton On Foundation. The library, at the Valley Farm school on the Altydgedacht wine estate, will give farm school learners from the area access to educational books that will help with their homework.

Yase Godlo, manager of the Nelson Mandela Foundation says: “South Africa’s democratic vision is about making it possible to give our youth a fighting chance – that is, the opportunity to own their future. Education is still the foundation of this opportunity.”

Priscilla August, Valley Farm School principal says it was a joyous day for the community: “The library will not only provide research material for the youngsters, but given the children’s background, also serve as a safe haven for many”.

“Children of today are the leaders of tomorrow and education is a very

important weapon to prepare children for their future roles as leaders of the

community.” – Nelson Mandela
