It’s time for Cape Town’s biggest, free open air spectacle – the annual Switching on the Lights ceremony! Thousands of Capetonians as well as visitors will this weekend congregate in Adderley Street and surrounds for this dazzling event that kick-starts the festive season.
The 2014 theme is ‘Cape Town Celebrates 20 Years of Democracy’.
The light displays are created along almost ten kilometres of city streets but, in case you were worried – the powers-that-be assure that electricity consumption is top of mind – for this reason, energy efficient rope lighting will be used again.
Mayor Patricia de Lille will do the honours at 8pm Sunday evening when she flips the lever that will bask Adderley street and surrounds in the beaming bright lights. The ceremony goes hand in hand with lekker local entertainment – performers will already start strutting their stuff at 4pm.
It’s family entertainment, so bring the kids and get into the festive spirit!
