More Madiba Magic on-line

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

Madiba’s legacy found a new home in cyberspace this week when the Nelson Mandela Foundation proudly launched its new-look, interactive website. The Nelson Mandela Foundation believes the site, celebrating Madiba, is a fitting way to commemorate the first anniversary of the great statesman’s death, next month. The re-launched web portal tells the story of the late president’s life through video, images, quotes and audio clips.

Danielle Melville, the foundation’s director of communications, says there’s been a renewed interest in Nelson Mandela in the run-up to the December 5th anniversary. She told Smile 90.4FM that the site was a visually rich, technological showpiece that incorporates new multimedia functionality.

The new interactive timeline is populated with diverse multimedia content, allowing key moments in Mandela’s life to come alive. Scrolling down from his 1918 birth in Qunu to the time of his passing in 2013 gives the user a profound sense of how Mandela ultimately realised his dream of a peaceful, united South Africa, and the long journey it took to get there.

“We specifically integrated social media into the new site, creating a more active, user-friendly experience while reaching more people”.

Over 40% of the 350 000 people who visit the website on average each month do so on tablets and mobile phones.
