There cannot be a better place to usher in the New Year than Cape Town… The Mother City will provide it all on the evening of the 31st – for the revellers, parties galore and for those who prefer a more peaceful entrance to 2015, nature at its best. Your pick.
If you want action: One of the biggest public parties is taking place at the V&A Waterfront where music and fireworks will be on the menu for the thousands of revellers expected. Be warned however – due to access control for capacity reasons, you’d better claim your place in the amphitheatre well before we bid 2014 farewell. Judged by the huge demand last year, the entrances to the vibrant visitor mecca may close as early as 6pm.
The New Year’s Eve Night March in the city centre is another great option if you want to experience the spirit of Cape Town with song and dance. The Cape Carnival bands and Malay Choirs will be performing in Keizergracht, Darling, Adderley, Wale and Rose Street.
If you want a little bit of both (“action and nature”): Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens is offering a picnic under the stars while you can jive to the music of some of our best local artists. (Tickets are available on webtickets.co.za)
If you want nature: Sunset on Table Mountain… The cablecar will be running until 8pm, making its last trip down at 9pm. What can be more special than watching the last sunset of 2014 from one the Seven Wonders of Nature…
